The NHS is a national treasure and I am delighted to support the Government’s record breaking £33.9 billion funding pledge for our NHS. This funding has allowed the NHS to publish a Long Term Plan which sets out a clear path for the NHS to be able to improve patient service whilst simultaneously cutting red tape. You can read this plan here: https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-term-plan/.
At Northampton General Hospital, we have recently seen a new 60 bed A&E unit open thanks to government investment- and I was delighted to invite the Health Secretary Matt Hancock to visit the new unit so that he could see and hear first hand from staff and patients about how best we can invest in our local NHS services.
In the last ten years we have seen a huge rise in the demand for NHS services and since the Conservatives took office in 2010 we have recruited 18,000 more doctors and 17,000 more nurses on our wards and we are continuing to support the NHS in recruiting more staff.
I also wholeheartedly believe that mental health should have parity with physical health and I support the Government’s plans to invest £2.3 billion into supporting mental health services.
