On Friday, 2nd November I once again visited Kingsthorpe College in my constituency of Northampton North. I have visited the College on many occasions, most notably some three years ago in January 2016 when I brought the then-United States Ambassador to the UK to visit the school. On this month’s occasion, I met 30 of the College’s pupils (between age 11 and 18) to discuss politics and my role as Member of Parliament for Northampton North.
Youth engagement in politics can be low. In light of this, I was very pleased to see the enthusiasm of the pupils in wanting to discuss politics and to ask me questions about Parliament and the current political situation. Encouraging younger people to be more involved in politics is something that I have done and continue to do since I was first elected in 2010; many of my dedicated and hard-working volunteers who help me canvass for constituents’ views are young and many have found volunteering in this way very beneficial. I am always happy to accept invitations from schools in Northampton North to talk to their pupils and I am pleased that every visit re-enforces that we have great schools here in Northampton.
