I was recently invited to visit Newmedica Northampton at their premises in the Moulton Park Estate.
Newmedica is an eye health clinic that provides treatment for NHS and private patients. It has sites around the country but this unit operates in a branch in Moulton Park in my constituency.
During my visit I met members of the excellent staff and was given a tour of the premises and saw some of the medical equipment involved in treatments. I discussed with managers how the clinic works alongside NHS trusts to treat NHS patients and how the Government can best improve the provision of eye care treatments in Northampton following the significant impact of the pandemic on ophthalmology and waiting times for eye care.
The Government currently invests £500 million annually in NHS eye care treatment, with the NHS carrying out 12 million sight tests and around 500,000 cataract procedures every year.
Eye health is extremely important as people enter old age and become increasingly vulnerable to cataracts and other visual impairments, and I welcome the presence of the clinic in Northampton to provide much-needed eye care services to my constituents.
